Last week I went to theatre. I had a very good seat.
The play was very interesting. I did not enjoy it. A young man and a young
woman were sitting behind me. They were talking loudly. I got very angry. I
could not hear the actors. I turned around. I looked at the man and the woman
angrily. They did not pay any attention. In the end, I could not bear it. I
turned round again. ‘I can’t hear a word!’ I said angrily.
‘It’s none of your business,’ the young man said
rudely. ‘This is a private conversation!’

Minggu lalu, saya pergi ke bioskop. Saya menempati
sebuah tempat duduk yang sangat ideal. Pertunjukannya sangat menarik. Saya
tidak dapat menikmatinya. Seorang pemuda dan pemudi duduk di belakangku. Mereka
berbica dengan keras. Saya marah. Saya tidak dapat mendengar para pemain
pertunjukkan. Saya menoleh ke belakang. Saya melihat pemuda dan pemudi itu
dengan marah. Mereka tidak menanggapi. Akhirnya, saya tak dapat menahan kemarahan
saya. Saya menoleh lagi. ‘saya tidak dapat mendengarkan pertunjukkan!’ saya
berkata dengan marahnya.
‘Ini bukan urusanmu,’ pemuda itu menjawab dengan
kasar. ‘Ini percakapan/urusan pribadi!’

Key Structures
Word Order in Simple Statements.
a. A
statement tells us about something. All the sentences in the passages are
statements. Each of these statements contains one idea. Each statement tells us
about one thing. A statement that
tells us about one thing is a simple
statement.
b. The
order of the words in a statement is very important. Look at these two
statements. They both contain the same words but they do not mean the same
thing:
The policeman arrested the thief.
The thief arrested the policeman.
c. A
simple statement can have six parts, but it does not always have so many. Study
the order of the words in the columns on page 14. Note that column 6 (when?)
can be at the beginning or at the end of a statement.
